Tips for milling Dibond
Dibond panels are made up of two thin layers of aluminum with a plastic core in between. These panels are widely used in construction and the advertising industry due to their lightweight, durability, and aesthetic appeal.
Especially when creating complex shapes or when a clean edge finish is required, it's recommended to mill Dibond rather than cut it. Milling Dibond is done with a router or CNC milling machine. It's crucial to use a sharp cutter, and the chip removal system should be kept clear.
Unlike the common advice for milling metals in the direction of the cutter movement, Dibond panels and aluminum composite panels require a different approach. For the best edge finish, it's recommended to mill these panels against the rotation direction of the cutter.
As with all Dibond processing, providing proper support for both the panel and the cutter is essential. To avoid vibrations from the ACP panel during milling, it's advisable to work on a wooden surface that allows the cutter to move smoothly.
