Trespa routers and milling cutters for Trespa

Trespa® is the brand name for High Pressure Laminate (HPL) panels and is perhaps the largest and best known HPL brand in the Netherlands. Trespa panels are extremely suitable for outdoor use thanks to the durability of the material. The material is extremely weather resistant and sun, rain and UV radiation have no effect on the material. Trespa is therefore often used for facade cladding, windshields and fascia. In addition, Trespa can also be used for many other applications such as furniture for laboratory, research and educational environments, advertising signs and as a material for printing photos for the wall.

Trespa is a hard durable panel material with a dense structure due to the combination of wood fibers, paper and thermosetting resins. These materials are pressed together under high pressure resulting in a panel material that has many similarities to hardwood.

Milling in Trespa

Because of Trespa's dense structure and hardness, drilling and milling in Trespa and other hard plastics can cause high wear on the cutter. It is sometimes said of Trespa that the material is difficult to machine due to its hardness, but nothing could be further from the truth. If you use the right tools, your CNC milling machine is properly adjusted and the correct milling speed is selected, Trespa can be milled and machined just fine.

Do you have a project where you want to mill Trespa with a CNC machine? Then - at least for small diameters - it is best to choose a solid carbide milling cutter. Solid carbide end mills are less subject to wear. If you choose a high-quality end milling cutter which has been specially developed for machining Trespa, you will find that milling Trespa is very easy.

Milling cutters for Trespa machining

At Veldman Grijptechniek we have developed a special solid carbide Trespa spiral cutter with profile teeth (art. no. 30053) which is ideally suited for milling Trespa on CNC machines. This special Trespa cutter has a special geometry which gives very good results when machining especially hard materials including Trespa. Thanks to the milling cutter's specific profile toothing, Trespa can be milled at high speed with a tight result.

Diamond cutter for Trespa machining

Besides solid carbide CNC milling, Trespa and other HPL materials such as Corian, HI-MACS are also frequently machined with diamond cutters. Usually, diamond milling cutters with one or two full diamond cuts are used for this purpose. Due to the wear resistance of diamond, the tool life is on average 20 -50 times longer than carbide. Especially when machining very hard materials such as Trespa, diamond cutters are therefore widely used.
