Freud's extensive and high-quality circular saw program offers a suitable saw for almost any operation. Whether it is for sculling (longitudinal sawing) of solid wood, plywood, laminate and wood with knots, cross-cutting of wood and sheet material, pre-zipping of coated sheet material or cutting of plexiglass and plastics including PVC.
- JHV circular saws: a very extensive range of standard saw blades of excellent quality, many of which are also available in low-noise versions. When this is the case, it is indicated in the table corresponding to a particular type of saw blade.
- Quwoto circular saw blades: these saw blades are manufactured in Japan and are regarded worldwide as the best saw blades available on the market. They are therefore intended for users with the highest quality requirements. A combination of a virtually vibration-free base blade, special lasering, the use of very special carbide and extremely precise tolerances creates an ultimate saw blade.
- Economy line circular saw blades: the format saw blades and zipper saws in the Economy Line are suitable for both professionals and hobbyists and are extra competitively priced. Despite the lower price, they feature top quality carbide teeth.

Circular saw blades for wood
Every circular saw blade for woodworking consists of several components that affect performance and cut quality. The main characteristics of saw blades are:
- Diameter: The diameter of a saw blade determines how deep the saw can cut. Common diameters are 160 mm, 184 mm and 230 mm for handheld circular saws, but it is important to choose a blade that is compatible with the saw machine.
- Tooth configuration: The shape, number and arrangement of the teeth are crucial to cut quality and speed. Coarse-toothed blades are better for fast cutting of wood, while fine-toothed blades give a smoother finish.
- Saw blade thickness (Kerf): This refers to the width of the cut the blade makes. Thicker blades are sturdier and less likely to bend, but require more power from the sawyer. Thinner blades cut faster and use less power, but can be more sensitive to vibration.
- Axis hole: This is the hole in the center of the saw blade that fits the saw machine. The size should match the axis of your circular saw. Common sizes are 16 mm and 30 mm, but adapters are available to use smaller or larger saw blades.
Different types of wood saw blades
Choosing the right wood saw blade depends greatly on the material you will be cutting and the type of cut you want to achieve. Below we discuss the most common types of wood saw blades for cutting wood and panel materials. Wood saw blades are specifically designed for cutting different types of wood, such as soft and hard wood, MDF, plywood and (laminated) chipboard. There are three main types of wood saw blades:
- Coarse-toothed blades: These blades have fewer teeth, usually between 16 and 24, and are used for fast cutting of wood. They are ideal for rough work such as cutting boards or beams.
- Fine-toothed blades: These blades have between 40 and 60 teeth and provide a smooth finish. They are perfect for cutting laminate or plywood, where a clean edge without splinters is desired.
- Combination blades: These blades have a balanced number of teeth and can be used for both fast and precise cutting. They are a versatile choice for general woodworking jobs.
Maintenance of wood circular saw blades
Maintaining a wood circular saw blade properly is essential to getting the most out of your cutting. Here are some tips for maintenance:
- Clean regularly: Resin and sawdust can build up on the teeth of the saw blade, making the blade cut less efficiently. Clean your circular saw blade for wood regularly with a special cleaner to remove accumulated residue.
- Sharpen the teeth: If your wood saw blade is blunt, you can have it sharpened. Carbide teeth in particular can be sharpened several times before the blade needs to be replaced. You can learn more about sharpening circular saw blades on our sharpening page.
- Avoid overheating: Make sure you cut at the correct speed and pressure. Overheating can lead to blade deformation and a loss of cutting precision.
